How to brush Properly

How To Brush Your Teeth Properly | Dental Hygienist | Oral Hygiene | Dr Sidelsky

How to brush Properly

In South Africa we spend over 900 million per year on dental wash products. And if you brush your teeth the right way, an effortless manual toothbrush and a lower grade fluoride toothpaste are just as efficient. below are a few ways to brush your teeth properly…

  • Spend at least two minutes twice a day brushing your teeth.
  • Brush your teeth methodically, working your way from one side of the mouth to the other, making sure you brush all the surfaces and in between.
  • Use just a smidgen of toothpaste and try not brush too hard, thinking that would be best. Gently tickle the teeth and gums, that is more than enough pressure you’ll need.
  • Don’t rinse your mouth with water at all, just spit out the last bits of toothpaste left in your mouth. By not rinsing, the toothpaste stays in your mouth longer and continues to do its work and clean your mouth.

Live Longer

Medical trials have proven that gum disease affects our overall body health. About Twenty billion bacteria live in our mouths. Tooth and gum contamination causes inflammation that spreads through our body and blood, which could cause heart disease, brain and blood vessel issues. So the main focus should be, if you look after your entire mouth you will live longer. People who don’t smoke are ten times less likely to suffer from gum disease.

Avoid Snacks & Acid Attacks

Over the past couple of years, it’s not only what we eat that has greatly changed, but also when and how often we eat, and that has had a massive impact on our dental health. After you eat, your mouth becomes acidic for about 45 minutes. If you are constantly snacking throughout the day, instead of eating at regular meal times, your mouth becomes 55 per cent more acidic, which highly increases the chances of tooth decay and gum diseases. So by sticking to your meal times, you have nothing to worry about.
